Help save interurban and streetcar heritage!

As most of you know, the Indiana Transportation Museum vacated its long-time home in Noblesville this past July. Left in the wake of its eviction were numerous artifacts from its collection that had been sold to various other museums and collectors to save them from scrapping or relinquishing them to the City of Noblesville.

Among those items sold to a new non-profit, the Hoosier Heartland Trolley Co., are four examples of electric railroading in Indiana. This includes irreplaceable cars from Indiana’s unique interurban railroad heritage, as well as the last remaining trolley of the Indianapolis streetcar system.

The organization was able to purchase these cars from ITM and to arrange long-term storage in anticipation of restoration, but now must move them off-site prior to November 1 to avoid losing them again to the City of Noblesville. They estimate about $7,000 is needed for transportation costs for each car, with a goal of $30,000. After moving them to a secure location will come the restoration efforts that ITM was never able to complete.
