Main Index of Historic Railroading in Indiana

Historic railroads are generally named by the common name used in the 1940's and 50's. This was after the consolidation of the earlier pioneer railroads and before the modern rounds of mergers that began in the 1960's. However, the mergered railroads are also listed where they became well-known (for example, Penn Central and Norfolk & Western).

Interurbans are generally named by the name most widely known.
