Amtrak Baseball Special - April 20th and 21st (Friday and Saturday)

We're Going To Chicago on our first-ever Baseball Special! Join us and ride restored vintage passenger cars from Indianapolis to Chicago for the Reds vs. Cubs baseball game Friday, April 20 at historic Wrigley Field.

The ride will consist of privately-owned passenger cars not normally part of Amtrak passenger trains. The cars include the New York Central #38 Lounge, former Pennsylvania Railroad Braddock Inn (Lounge conversion by Maryland Area Regional Commuter railroad), and the former Northern Pacific #558 dome coach The Observatory. We will couple to the rear of Amtrak's Hoosier State train and depart from Indianapolis' Union Station at 6am on the morning of April 20th.

After arriving in style at Chicago's Union Station we will proceed to Wrigley Field for the ball game which will include $20 in Cubby Dollars for lunch. Overnight accommodations and breakfast on Saturday morning are included. After breakfast we will proceed downtown for a day at the Museum of Science and Industry with a box lunch to be provided as well as admission to see the German U505 Submarine that is also on display. We will then proceed to Chicago's Union Station for our 5:45pm departure back to Indianapolis with a scheduled arrival at 11:50pm.

There will be two classes of service available for this special Amtrak excursion. First Class is available for $475 per person based on double occupancy. Premium Dome Class will also be available for $500 per person based on double occupancy. Both classes of service will include on-board breakfast service enroute to Chicago on April 20th and on-board dinner service en-route to Indianapolis on April 21st.

Seating is limited and reservations are required. Tickets are on sale online at http://tickets.whitewatervalleyrr.org or by calling the Whitewater Valley Railroad's Grand Central Station at (765) 825-2054.

DEPARTURE NOTE: This train will operate out of Indianapolis' Union Station.

Consist Update:

It appears the WVRR is not the only ones going to the game this Friday. Reports are the INRD will be placing the former ATSF lounge and the former ATSF business car behind the three WVRR chartered cars on the Hoosier. It also appears the "Beech Grove" may be on the rear of the train as well. Not sure if anyone will be onboard the car or not. The INRD is supposedly also going to attend the same game that day and return behind the Hoosier that evening.

I hope someone gets photos of this train.

The three WVRR charted cars are spotted on Track #9 at Indianapolis Union Station. We arrived at 6am this morning behind P05118. We watched the Cardinal pick up two extra coaches and the PV Colorado Pine bound for Chicago. Looking forward to the arrival of the rest of the consist for P851 in the morning.

What was the head count for the White Water Valley folks? Was the platform in Indy croweded during boarding? That's quite a consist. Anyone able to take a video of it this morning?

We carried 42 excited baseball fans from Indianapolis. This included the staff. They boarded each section seperatley so it was not that crowded. We arrived in Chicago early.
