Amtrak 40 Year Museum Train
« Reply #40 on: April 22, 2012, 11:54:51 AM »
For those who haven't caught the Amtrak 40th Anniversary train, a couple of the last chances in Indiana are coming up.

Apparently the set will be on the Capitol that arrives across Indiana Monday morning.

Then on Wednesday there will be a near-miss.  The Eagle has been detouring on the Villa Grove, and if that happens again, you should be able to see the museum set on train 21 heading south to Longview.
Without world class trains and internet, Indiana is failing as a sucessful competitor in the 21st Century.

40th Anniversary Train

It does seem that 822/406 and the museum train cars will be on the Villa Grove now, thru Beecher and Watseka.  Just a short hop across the state line.

Trains 21/22 on Wednesday will apparently be returning to the normal routing.

If it is any help, the arrival times of train 21 at Woodland Junction (just south of Watseka) have been right at 4 PM for each of the last two days.  I can't speak for today's situation yet.  That makes it 5 PM Indy time.

156 was anticipated to be added to today's Cardinal at Washington.  If so, that would put it in Indiana on Saturday morning.

Amtrak Heritage unit sightings

The equipment is inbound today on a late train 22.  My understanding is that it will move to Toledo as a special train with 4 superliner cars.  Then on the 5th, the equipment breaks up because 822 cannot travel to Grand Central Station.

Here is what is supposed to happen:
822 and the superliners are supposedly going to Chicago on the regular Capitol.
406 and the museum cars will go to Albany on the regular Lakeshore.

A bunch of private cars will be added at Albany, and the whole shebang will go to Grand Central Station for National Train Day.

BTW: 66 stayed in Los Angeles for National Train Day
145 is still with the Southwest Explorer High Iron Special at Hobbs, New Mexico.  Ending up in Kansas City on Friday.
156 returned to Chicago this morning on train 29
184 was supposed to do something different yesterday, but instead it went on train 7 with engine 7.  Engine 7 died, and was swapped out at Milwaukee

I'm not following any of what you just said.  And why can't 822 go to Grand Central Terminal?

156 was not supposed to be back today, but apparently it was on the Cardinal, at least that is the engine number given on the radio this morning.

406 with 822 and the annie set also supposed to be retired, but lo and behold they also are back this AM on #29.  Going to Normal, Illinois tomorrow evening for dedication of the new Amtrak station there, running both ways as a special, but right behind the "regular" Lincoln's.  Interestingly, this is the only week this month that trains are running, maybe they put the work window on hold so they could celebrate the new station for a couple of days before the line shuts down again.

Also the NS officer special may be back across the water level tonight, after 9 PM or so westbound at Waterloo.

Both phase II and Phase IV are in Chicago right now. 66 has been there for weeks for some reason.

Not technically a heritage unit, but the Veteran's unit (42) made the trip up to Chicago today on the Hoosier State. Unfortunately the decal is still under wrapping until the official unveiling.
