Museum Train
« Reply #20 on: February 07, 2012, 03:19:23 PM »
The Amtrak museum train is supposed to be heading south out of Washington on Wednesday's train 97.  They will drop off at Jacksonville for this weeken's festivities.  Then on to Tampa for the following weekend.  Don't know at this point if 156 is going to be doing the honors or not.

Following the Amtrak Heritage units just got a whole lot easier, the people that run the Amtrak Status maps have now added two pink marker bars on the train number where Heritage units are running, click on the train and it tells you which unit is on that train. At the present time it shows train 11(184), 8(145), 1(90) and 6(66) on the west section of the map.

44 and 90 will be on there too, since those are the ones, in addition to 66, that Trains Magazine will be following until the end of June.

This is kinda a test to see how it works.  If it works, other stuff that moves on regularly scheduled Amtrak trains, such as private cars, the Amtrak fall foliage dome, might be added at a future date.

Yes, nothing special about them other than Trains Magazine will be doing a "year in the life" spread on them and 66 in November.  Photos can be submitted to them for any time during the period July 1, 2011 thru June 30, 2012.

AMTK 44 is a little special, it and AMTK 120 pulled President Obama down the NEC during his inauguration. 44 for the 44th president and 120 because it was on January 20th.

Snow Train
« Reply #27 on: February 15, 2012, 04:07:02 PM »
Yesterday #184 and #66 took a special snow train east to Sparks, Nevada from Emeryville.  Unfortunately there isn't any way to show the special moves on the Amtrak Status Maps.  These two will be returning west tomorrow (the 16th).  There are two private cars in the mix of regular Amtrak cars.  184 had some wheel work done the day before the trip.  It has had flat wheels, a defunct battery charger that allowed its electrical system to go dead, and also was hit by a vehicle of some sort while working the Coast Starlight.  So, has been undergoing all kinds of issues lately.

145 was on the Pere Marquette last night and this morning, reportedly.  So should be around the Chicago area, as is #156.

As for the museum train, with #822 and #406, it is scheduled to make a move from Sanford to Tampa tomorrow night.  It will be on display over the weekend in Tampa.  After that, Amtrak has only announced three more stops in March, at Richmond on the 3rd&4th, then two stops in North Carolina.

I didn't know 44 was the locomotive that pulled President Obama's train, but after seeing the explanation, I felt pretty stupid.lol  Either way, I caught 44 twice yesterday.  It went South on Lincoln Service 301, then came back North on the 304.

301:

304:

Came back through again today on the 303.  Didn't catch it though.

145 has started making Lakeshore loops, but unfortunately is still trailing 134.  Supposed to go out again Tuesday night on train 48.  Meantime 156 is still getting its annual inspection in Chicago.

The 40 year train's next public showing is in Richmond the first weekend of March.

66 and 184 apparently tied up with the Snow Trains / Fun Trains.  The snow train is headed east again today, will overnight at Sparks, then return to Oakland on Thursday.  This lasts until the middle of March apparently, but haven't hear whether both engines will stay there for the duration.

I believe this is the last year for the Snow Train / Fun Train deal.

Had a note to pass along about the 40 year train going to Hialeah this weekend.  But not open to the general public they say, just employees and family.  Next announced public stop is the following weekend at Richmond, Virginia.

After staying at Boston for a couple days for unknown reasons, 145 has joined back up with 136, and should be back in Indiana on the Lakeshore Sunday morning (trailing, ugh!).

145 Back from Albany to Chicago on the Lakeshore, then leading 198 on the Capitol.  Last night down on the Palmetto, returning to Washington today.

156 no further report since going in for annual inspection in Chicago

822/406 in Richmond today and Sunday, will be making a deadhead move to Raleigh Sunday night.

66 and 184 still tied up with Reno Fun Train / Reno Snow Train, apparently until after the last run on the 6th.  Then we should start getting some eastern action out of at least one of them.

March 8 Update
« Reply #34 on: March 09, 2012, 10:45:28 AM »
145 spent this week isolated between Raleigh and Charlotte, due to a track work window

156 has been working Carbondale trains on the CN, after finally coming out of maintenance

184 returned on the Zephyr after a divorce from 66 on the fun train

66 was joined by 99 for the last fun train trip, should be moving elsewhere one would think

406 and 822 in North Carolina for this weekend and next

Will put the link back up here at the top. First week of april still has 145 on Silver Service, 184 in LAX, 66 in Oakland, 156 most recently on the Builder.  Two more stops have been added for the Anniversary Train with 822/406, namely Longview, Texas in April and Toledo for early May.

145 seems to be on the train 51 that should arrive in Indiana on Monday April 16.  PV's on the rear, perhaps headed to Cincinnati.  It is a couple of hours down already though, so anything can happen with this train.

Yes, 2 PVs on rear will be set off in Cincinnati - CNRY ran their annual Cincinnati-DC Cherry Blossom Special this weekend.
