Big 4 Coach Facility in Indy
« on: June 14, 2011, 11:35:02 AM »
Me and Christian were on the way to the Naptown and White River after stopping at a friend of Christian's house. We first went over to DX (CP280) to check out an S234(?) go by, and following that, we grabbed a bite to eat at Hardee's and we headed towards the club once again. Going down Shelby Street, he showed me where the Big 4 (NYC) Coach yard used to be, and low and behold, we found this after going past it.

Shelby Street wasn't a coach yard. It was an engine facility, complete with a turntable. Look at Google Earth and you can still see the remnants.

I know there was an engine facility but it was my understanding that the area north of the roundhouse was a coach yard. it disappeared somewhere between 1956 and 1962 after looking at the historical aerials.

Hmmmmm....

that would be an awfully small coach yard. Maybe for locals only?

Couldn't find anything on Google Earth, must be looking in the wrong place.  Also have vivid memories of watching the NYC go past the old Sherman Drive In and heard rumors of the roundhouse at Brightwood.  Any help in locating these old areas would be appreciated!

I could be totally wrong.

It was mentioned here long ago that it was used as a coach yard for a period of time.  I don't remember the details, but remember it being discussed.
