Little River 4-6-2 #110 Centennial Events!
« on: March 06, 2011, 05:53:21 PM »
Just "north of the border," Little River Railroad 4-6-2 #110, the smallest Pacific ever built, is celebrating its centennial year this year and they have some great events planned in Coldwater, MI for the weekend of July 15-17.  Among the trips planned are a quintuplet trip to Quincy and back with 5 live steamers on Sunday, and the 110 taking a long excursion from Coldwater to Hillsdale and back on Saturday.  Check out this link for information about their plans for that weekend!

This past summer I spent $65 for one of their Hillsdale Flyer trips from Coldwater to Hillsdale and return, including a lunch at the B&B in the historic Jonesville Depot. It's a great ride on the Old Road mainline. Beautiful scenery, lots of old whistle posts and mileposts, and you pass several active spurs served by the Indiana Northeastern. The family that owns the 110 has put a lot of work into this operation and it would be great to see people support them. I think my $65 was well-spent.

Here's a link to a trip report with photos from my trip last summer: http://indianarailroads.org/board/index.php?topic=4272.0

Nice excursions from this place.  My wife and son surprised me last year on Father's Day with an excursion from here.  Dads ride free.  Can't beat that deal.  I would assume they are doing this again this year.

The Little River Railroad's centennial celebration is THIS WEEKEND  just a few miles north of the Indiana/Michigan border at Coldwater, MI.  If you've never been or are looking for something fun to do this weekend, this is IT!  They run a great operation and its great to support a family-owned steamer such as this.  The excursion to Hillsdale is over some of Michigan's oldest railroad trackage, rolling through beautiful southern Michigan.  Check it out!

In the past, they've run around their train behind the Burger King on M-99.  Not sure where they'll do it this time around.
