NKP 765 Returns to the Hoosier Valley
« on: February 11, 2011, 02:50:42 AM »
The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum is proud to announce the return of the famous Nickel Plate Road steam locomotive no. 765. The 765 will be powering a number of steam excursions this season in partnership with the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. These trips will be operating over the former Chesapeake & Ohio mainline between North Judson and LaCrosse, Indiana.

Trains will operate over the Memorial Day weekend (May 28th, 29th and 30th) with the Mint Festival Flyer running on Fathers Day weekend (June 18th and 19th). The Independence Limited will operate on July 2nd. Ticket prices start at $20 for children and $24 for adults.

NKP 765 successfully pulled more than 4,000 passengers at HVRM in 2009 and we expect this year to be even more successful, so buy your tickets early! Trains will operate at 10:00 am, 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm each day and passengers can choose from four classes of tickets: economy, coach, first class and The Steam Experience. The Steam Experience will give passengers the rare opportunity to ride behind 765 in an open-air car, where they can take in the sights, smells and sounds of the big Berkshire.

Some lucky people will actually have the opportunity to operate NKP 765 during our special “Throttle Time” event on Friday, June 17, 2011. For $765.00, guests will receive general instruction on railroad safety, locomotive firing and operation, and highball the 765 on the C&O mainline for an hour, spending 30 minutes on each side of the cab to learn what it takes to keep this magnificent machine running.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at 765@hoosiervalley.org. Please visit the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum website for more information.

I have always enjoyed seeing NKP765 running out North Judson in the past. It is a great experience and a great photo opportunity for all you camera buffs. Watch out for the "foamers" though!

I'm thrilled about this news, chased it several times in 2009, looking forward to getting it again this year.

Yeah, it should be a pretty exciting year at HVRM!

The NKP 765 Throttle Time slots have been selling extremely well, so if someone is interested, you should probably buy one now. We only have two more time slots available on June 17th.

The first NKP 765 Throttle Time date has been completely sold out, so we have added another date on July 3rd.

The NKP 765 Throttle Time slots sold out quickly, but there's still an opportunity to operate this magnificent machine on July 3rd:

Thanks for posting!  As recent fans jumping into this with both (16) feet we are excited to get to see some steam!  Last I saw was in North Vernon and it wasn't running.

Just thought I'd bump this thread since it is scheduled to run this weekend.

I plan on "chasing" it this weekend, prolly on Sunday.

We had a rough start with 765 missing the first run do to an injector issue, but the problem was fixed and they ran the last 2 trips.  Couple pics from Friday.

This signals always make me think of Illinois Railway Museum.
Do you guys plan on using old signals to signal the line at all?

Will the 765 be Running on Fathers Day. Would like to try to come up and get Pictures and Video of it. The Grand Son has never seen a Steam Locomotive and wants to see one.

765 will be running on Father's day weekend.  Shane, there are no plans at this time to signal the former C&O.
