South Bend

Downtown South Bend is one of the most active places in the state for rail traffic. Although viewing is not as easy as it once was, you can still see 100+ trains a day on the NS and CN mainlines. I recall a special night in the mid 90's when I saw 7 trains on 3 different railroads all at the same time (3 NS, 3 GTW, 1 CSS) from my vantage point at the Arnold St crossing (now removed). If you can find a good parking spot near Covelesky Stadium, that would probably be the best place to view the trains along with Union Station, the interlocking tower, and some vintage signals.
