Washington RailFest
« on: May 13, 2010, 09:54:33 PM »
Apparently Washington is having a 'Railfest' this weekend. They are to have rail related items and movies on display at the museum on main street.  The old tin lantern, which is like an indoor flea market on main street, owner has a fairly large layout upstairs he is working on and I believe will be running trains.  The old depot and the old McDonalds cheverelot building are suppose to have model layouts and a O scale club out of Indy as the main club.  There might be more and there might be less but it might be a nice event. They need to do a better job of advertising it.
It goes on Friday during the day till 4, I think and during the day Saturday.  If I can find the paper, I'll try to update the times.

Just might have to make the trip over there.   Real trains would make  the railfest complete.   ;)

Bill,

How did the Washington RailFest turnout this year? I was down there last year on Saturday morning and it was drizzling rain most of the time. They only had 2 train layouts running and I can't say there was a large crowd until the music started up town. Nice museum there on local historical stuff. And, a really unique hamburger joint as I remember.

Boy, don't know how I missed updating this or responding to your post.  Anyways like years before it was basically a bust.  Had one O scale layout they have every year and something smaller in the corner but my boy didn't even want to look at it.  Its a shame that a town that was once such a big hub for the BO back in the day.

We(N Trak club) went down there last year and came away with the same impression. We were scoping it out last year since we had an invite to come down and see about setting up our layout for a couple of days. Didn't much care for the location and I didn't see a lot of coordinated/organized activity going on(it was raining most of that day). It would be nice if it caught on. A nice excursion train ride operating for the days of the festival might draw in a few more folks.

I didn't even go last year.  I don't even remember seeing it advertised and we ended up going to Evansville and saw some little write up in the paper later on.  I would have loved to see some n scale action especially since I have been beating my head against the wall trying to come up with a track plan, lol. :o
