I am browsing through photos at...
http://images.indianahistory.org/

I stumbled upon a photo that I was hoping that it would be the UTC Deer Creek Trestle bridge between Marion and Jonesboro.

The caption says that the bridge is located in Carroll Co (not Grant Co).  Still, it is a remarkable bridge.

Does anyone have any additional info?   Did this bridge become part of the Monon just east of Delphi?

-- Edit --
The caption says that it is part of the Monon Photo Collection

It is probably the site of the Monon's "High Bridge" just South of Delphi. This was a narrow guage line at one time and the lineage of the Air Line and LNA&C mentioned in the description fits. Neat pic, never viewed it before, thanks for sharing. Jay

I can find several pictures of the current(still there, I think) "high bridge" across Deer Creek just SE of Delphi. I can't find any pictures like the one you have linked to in any of my Monon books. Even in the Monon books when they talk about upgrading the bridges at Delphi on the Monon there is no mention of replacing a wood trestle bridge like the one in your referenced picture. That's a really good find.

This bridge was a hot topic at the Monon Society a while back.

We have all determined it is actually a photo of the original trestle built in 1886 at Paoli, Indiana.
This bridge was replaced with a steel bridge in 1904.

This bridge was decided to be over the 'Lost River" as there is no water in the picture.

Tom has a segment on his website here.

The original curved wooden trestle over Lost River north of Paoli. Date unknown. We do know that this picture was taken before 1904.

Originally built of Wood construction and replaced, this bridge connected the Monon's mainline at Orleans with the resort towns of West Baden and French Lick. Abandoned in 1982 and removed. 85 feet high.

Abandoned steel trestle over Deer Creek on the Monon Railroad near Delphi

Part of the former Monon Railroad's Indy to Chicago "Air Line", this is one of two large bridges of similiar design on this route. Owasco is the other. Abandoned in 1987 and rails quickly removed and it has sat silent but intact since..

Abandoned steel trestle over Wildcat Creek on the former Monon Railroad near Owasco

Part of Monon's Indy to Chicago line, abandoned by CSXT in the early 1990's. Damaged when pier was undercut by high waters causing part of structure to lean.

We looked at the photo from the I.H.S and zoomed in on it a little. Noticing the low rail is leaning toward the photographer.Look at the man standing on the tender. It is difficult to tell the curvature is there. The hill in the background matches all photos. Deer Creek and the Wildcat have no hills that we know of. They were also straight.

I still have to leave open the possibility that this picture at IHS could be from the narrow gauge days. It seems there are no photos as of yet of a trestle at Deer Creek though.  Somebody needs to invent a time machine. LOL Smiley
