I had a great visit at the museum at Rossville IL last Saturday. Rossville is about 10 miles north of Danville. You can see Indiana from there! This is on the CSX from Chicago-Evansville. They have wonderful displays of signals, equipment and railroad artifacts. Also have a model railroad layout in the other end of the depot. Great place to just sit back and roll the trains by you. Here is a link to their website and a picture of T 938 rolling southbound past the depot.
I know this isn't an Indiana museum but I thought it was close enough to Indiana to warrant a posting.  Grin

Would anyone happen to know if the tracks from Rossville Jct. to Henning to serve the grain elevator are still in and being used?
Several years ago when I was with R.J. Corman we worked a pretty big train wreck in the middle of nowhere between Henning and Rossville Jct. It seemed that the guys at the elevator were loading a cut of hoppers and left for lunch. When they came back the cars were nowhere to be found. After a little driving around they found the cars in a pile about a mile or so away! Here's some pictures of the mess.

I believe that was part of the "Brothers Branch" and CSX petitioned for abandonment a few years ago.

The Brothers branch was only to Henning in recent years. Then in 2007, when Walker Grain bought the elevator in Henning, he had ties scattered out like they were going to rebuild the line. But he got spooked about the wood trestle over the North Fork of the Vermilion river located just west of where the line crossed IL route 1 south of Rossville. Someone told him it wouldn't handle the new hoppers with higher weights.
So in 2008 the line came up. He got the best price for scrap metal that year. The S2 switcher was gutted for parts, and what remained went to a retreat owned by a local businessman so that his grandson could play on it!
