NKP 587
« on: October 03, 2005, 07:22:47 AM »
Here is the NKP 587 that I caught at Alexandria Indiana on June 29, 1991 as it leads an excursion train.

The 587 served the Nickel Plate for years, retired to an Indianapolis park, was returned to steam by the Indiana Transportation Museum and is currently out of service at the museum. She may or may not run again, but she was standing proud on this day representing her heritage.

The 587 is alive and well so to say.  The boiler inspection is still being worked on at ITM in Noblesville.  Not much has been done since late 2004.  They are being held up by the grant, and do not have the money yet.

May 31 2003.  Locomotive is seperated from the tender and original NKP work ladder from Frankfort is mated to the cab for easy access.

One last shot.  August 23 2003.  We were done removing the sheathing and insulation not long after that.  587 has sat in the barn at ITM awaiting funds since then.
