NICTD & CSS 11th St. double track (photo-book)
« on: December 10, 2019, 02:25:18 PM »
Hi, my Wife just bought me a new Railroad book for Christmas (she doesn't about it yet)
However, I got a bit of a surprise."Chicago's South Shore Line", by Kenneth C. Springirth, has (post WWII) photos showing double track along 11th Street, Michigan City.
These are at 11th St. Station and there is a glimpse of a Turnout at Washington St. where the line reverted to single track?
The second track appears to be closer to 11th St. Sta building, the track today possibly being laid between the original double ones, leaving more room for cars on either side?
I'm not sure if it were double track all the way back to C. Ave' or just a Passing Siding, but it looks like history is repeating itself with the proposed new trackage.
Incidentally, apol's I can only write about the SSL. Paul
