Old Industrial Track
« on: April 20, 2018, 10:27:15 AM »
This was a lead to an industry.  Where was the track (it's now gone and has been for some time) and what industry did it serve? A local man told me, at the time I took the picture,  what industry it served.  I have some hints at the ready but this is a pretty sharp bunch, so I'll wait for questions before I give the hints.

Taking a stab here.....

Considering the majority of your posts are from the SW portion of the state, I'm gonna guess it was the west end of the old River Main in Vincennes. Possibly the same location that Judge Osborn has his museum now?

I like your way of thinking. Think of where a lot of my other pictures were taken.

There is a "Federal" building adjacent to the spur and this should help you "match" the clues.

Match factory, yes.  Not Newport.

Did it server the old match factory on Elmore St. in Crawfordsville?

Correct location. It probably served the match factory at one time (as well as the Pennsy main on the west side of it) but was the last customer it served? It was south of Elmore St.

I don't know what happened but it's no longer there. It's in some of my pictures and I did take some photos of the building.  The last industry served by this was used to do some heavy lifting.

Don't know if it went poof but maybe it did go out of business because they couldn't strike any deals.

You nailed it!  It went to the Hyster facility and I'm sure the last car was pulled a long time ago, even by 1985.
