ITM Bunny Hop Express
« on: March 05, 2018, 09:02:17 PM »
The Indiana Transportation Museum will be offering their Easter train this month on the Winamac Southern/US Rail line between Kokomo and Logansport. First day they run out of Logan's 18 Street yard and all following dates leave from Kokomo from the Former PRR station site used for the Polar Bear Express train. All will go to Walton's volunteer fire department for a stop featuring games, goodies, and an Easter egg hunt. Details at Itm.org.
The Iowa Pacific E unit and cars from the Polar train I figure will be used again as they are tied down behind Kokomo Grain next to the Winamac Southern gp9 1754. I have poked around Kokomo and Logansport and cannot find any other ITM equipment, yet.

When I first saw the posts on their Facebook page, I commented my hopes for ITM equipment. The reply I got was a hopefull one, though I'll take the IP consist, if that's all they can manage. Still, even 2 or 3 ITM coaches being brought up to make more space would be nice.

Give them credit for doing what they can to survive.  Be nice if KG/Ortmans would get old 1754 running again.  If I remember right, she has issues with low lube oil pressure at hot idle due to worn main and con rod bearings.  Been also told that is just a couple day job for good EMD tech to swap new bearings in and wake her up again.   Hope the bunny hop train is a sell out like the PE trains were.

The last time I looked at 1754, a couple years ago parked behind KG, she had lots of broken glass and was looking pretty shabby. I asked at the office I could go back and see it and they escorted me back to it.

She got vandilzed pretty good before KG moved it further back on the property.  Shame people cannot respect others property.  Maybe she will run again someday.  Guessing KG keeps her incase thier little old switchers croak.  She would do better moving loaded hoppers around.  Probably back up power in case something happens to US Rail and they have to run the line themselves, atleast with some repair work done quickly, they would have 1 engine.
