Talgo move from Beech Grove
« on: January 30, 2018, 09:19:45 AM »
Supposedly there was to be a movement of one of the stored Talgo trainsets this morning out of Beech Grove.
Have not heard anything of it on the air as of yet.
Train 317 sat for a good long time at Sagamore Parkway, finally on the move again.

Finally a radio reference to the special move being behind 642 (which is 2+ miles long).
It left just 30 minutes behind the Hoosier State, with engine 35.
Hoosier State itself was throttled about an hour at Lafayette.

Rumor is that the Talgo set is going to Pueblo for recertification.
It has sat so long that it is now considered a hospital train.

Only Seattle has a maintenance base.  Cascades have wrecked two of their trainsets within the past 8 months, and a third set needs a rebuild.
California joint power board has talked about putting them on surfline.

But since each set must have a fulltime Talgo person on board, few commuter services would seem willing to commit to the extra employee and maintenance base expenses.

I think the Cascades services may not have any choice.  They were planning to increase the number of daily runs.
