New audio feed from Fort Wayne?
« on: June 27, 2017, 03:44:10 PM »
Would anyone be interested in having an audio feed of the RR
radio here in the Fort Wayne area?

NS in Ft. Wayne, CF&E in Ft. Wayne, CSX in Garrett, NS through Waterloo.

If there's enough interest, I'll start the feed. The feed will be available on
both Android and iPhone.

I'm just buzzing right along here.

I need to reach out to a buddy who is a computer guru. I need to
have my XP laptop fixed. It has software issues. I can use it for
as a dedicated computer.

I have one antenna and need to run two different receivers.
Do you have suggestions (Low $$) of how to do this?

Trying to use a windows computer for a 24/7 stream is nothing but a constant headache.
All of the Microsoft issues, combined with usually not being able to come back up by itself when there are minor internet blips (which seem to be every few minutes).
We normally don't notice the minor internet issues (other than occasional slow loading of pages while surfing) but the streamer on a laptop will.
A Barix Instreamer is the most reliable thing I have found (fairly expensive $300+ on new, less if you can find a good used one).
A Raspberry Pi is also very reliable (cheap $50 or so) if you can set it up yourself or find a friend to do it for you.
The Pi's are quirky to set up, but absent a lighting strike, pretty bulletproof once you get it going.

Say what????? I have had one on my site that has been stable for over 10 years.

I use a program called Radio feed now. But I used to use shoutcast.

If in doubt, Notch it out!

How does it handle the almost daily Microsoft updates that require the computer to shut down and reboot?

I don't get Windows 10 updates but maybe a couple times a week at most (there have been some significantly 'more annoying' weeks in the past though to be sure).  Auto-update can be turned off - that's what saved my sanity lol.  We are using some Raspberry Pi models (Linux-based) at work and they too have some associated auto-update headaches... a couple that have this feature disabled STILL do it and screw up the programs our business requires to have running - and those programs are a pain to restart sometimes.  Everything has built-in annoyances anymore it seems.
I hope this feed can get up and going - I'd stream it now and then plus I drive to Fort Wayne a couple times a year and this would be great to chase some trains with on some 'free time'!

I plan on running XP.  AEP with power blips will not be the issue with being shut down, but Mediacom will be.

I'll use Broadcastify.   I have the antenna and an 'old' radio lying here unused at the time. I need to get the computer up and running.

Well I do have to come clean and admit I run a Windows SERVER os.

Even still. If you set up the programs to run as services as boot. 99.9% of the maintenance headache goes away.
How do you do that?

This is the program that tames the obnoxious ATCS programs for ultimate uptime.
If in doubt, Notch it out!

He RRRadioman, contact me or see your email.

ATCS from the north east corner of Fort Wayne is in the works.  The south side seems to be covered already

You need to talk to Indyspy first...

There is already a group that handles the atcs in the region.
