If AMTRAK ever cancels Indy service.....
« on: June 12, 2017, 02:26:13 PM »
If Indy AMTRAK service gets cancelled there is one option.  ;)  I think I would have stuck one of those boards in the doorway so as to not lock him in if the train had some fantastic slack action.
Can anyone ID the location where he filmed this?

There is a milepost 40 that flashes by.  Could be on the Monon SB at MP 40, or EB at MP 40 on the P&E.

Judging by the shadows I would say this is WB on the P&E

It's definitely not the Monon. MP 40 on the Monon is concrete. It's also not on the Crawfordsville Branch either. MP 40 is on the north side of the tracks and doesn't have a whistle post anywhere near it.

Here's another clue, at 1:23 a blue crossing ID sign mounted to a Stop sign flashes by.  Too bad the resolution is such that you cannot read it.

MP 40 on the Monon is indeed concrete. However at one time it fell over into the muck CSX replaced it with a metal sign we are familiar with. Later a MOW crew "righted" the concrete marker and took down the metal MP marker. I can't speak to the whistle post. Have to look at some track charts.

Another possibility is they didn't take a direct route between the two points too.

At least he picked a loaded grain car.  Decent space to sit in and usually not a bad ride.

The loaded covered hopper or empty box car (as long as the door doesn't close) isn't bad but under a trailer on a spine car? That is about as suicidal as an empty well car

About the 3:30 mark, passing by my neighborhood that I lived in a little over two years ago (I lived on S. Belleview, between Washington and the tracks). The rail line was the main reason why I rented the house that I lived in.
