Mt.Vernon
« on: August 17, 2016, 02:03:54 PM »
I tossed the keys to ol' Bud 2 Golf no long ago & left it to him to pick the sites. It was a good afternoon to photograph the tracks of Mt Vernon past & present.
1-Exel,the former Bristol Myers warehouse.A pair of SD70MAC's nose to nose.Blue got up close & discovered the tracks on both sides of the motors were had sections cut out to prevent their movement.I had seen these 2 Canadian leasers working as nose to nose shovers during an ice storm last year on Lenard Rd (where the former L&N & Ohio Valley Railroad did indeed cross each other) & the sludge pods EVWR put on the switches had all these folks calling 911 reporting the tracks were on fire. There is no fire left here.Just a waste.
2.Walnut St.-This abandoned house may be razed soon.It served as a freight station for the trucks. There is scale in the driveway. The alley next to it was once a road itself running next to the station lines. This is south of the mainline.
3.A residence next to the alley/road weigh station. The if you look close-up,you can see the spur literally ran almost against the house itself. The tracks are not only in the pavement but in the lawn to this day.The owner must like the novelty of having the tracks on his lawn. You have to appreciate a homeowner like that!
4. The mound that served as a barrier stop for the spur.

5.The hump.
6.From Walnut st. to the lawn. This guy knows the precise setting of his mower deck.
7.The lot between Walnut & Main facing toward the old L&N station. There are tracks in both the lot between the streets & the warehouse gravel all still visible today.
8-9.The lot behind the old fish & tackle shop.

Lower New Harmony Rd looking west. There is a ATSF SD 45-2 in the distance to the left.Get out your microscope because I screwed the shot up trying to reset the camera. Not everyone can be Brian Wiggins.
The 3rd photo features ADMs little Trackmobile switching hoppers by the EVWR station on West 2nd St.
The old C&EI station/equipment shed.
