Afternoon All,

I'll have the oportunity to take in some training up in the general direction of the Wabash Central (at least that is what I've been told).  Does anyone have any ideas about operations or where they keep their engines?

Check the single wide trailer by Bond street back the gravel lane to the propane dealer. The crew drives a white Ford Ranger extended cab truck. If its gone, they might be out running the line or up at Woodburn line. They have two black GP10's, sometimes at different locations on the line. Crew is pretty nice, but remember they are working. River bridge on west side of Warren would be a pretty cool picture. A lot of county roads cross the line about every mile, just follow the line. 10 mph limit with some slow orders I believe- easy chasing. Check Craigville, Bluffton, Warren, or Van Buren for engine parking of GP10's. Seem to be done usually around 4pm, but can vary with NS work in the area. Good luck!

I find a lot of times the WBCR parks at least one of there two in Bluffton, occaisionally leave it at Craigville, where this old IHR line ends.

They also like to park the engines near the CR100E (Adams St) crossing on the West side of Bluffton.  I don't know if it's to keep away from vandals, or let NS use the yard tracks, or fueling.

Here is one of my videos that shows the Cloverleaf Line as it was being taken up, and includes the ex-Indiana Hi-Rail units in Bluffton.

What is the location of the diamond at the 0:12 mark?

That looks like the diamond at Ohio City, where the Erie Lackawanna, Nickel-Plate and Cincinatti all crossed, correct me if I'm wrong, but it has, what appears to be the red building on the Southside of the Erie Lackawanna tracks right after showing the diamond, also the metal silver building is still there today, which was in-between what was a cluster of diamonds at one time, which is the only diamond that remains today in Ohio City.

I’m assuming you mean the diamond is still in place, but it’s obviously not used, correct?  The track is gone on both sides of it.

Wasn’t the red barn the SPEG enginehouse?

#8 has joined #6 and #12 in Bluffton and it faces East.  Now they can have a back to back lash-up, no more long hood forward running, unless they leave #8 behind.  They still operate "as-needed", though NS seems to interchange cars daily with them.  A few months back I would hear them almost daily ask for permission to occupy the NS New Castle Main to get cars off of the transfer track a little after 0800.

Thanks for the word, any idea when #8 showed up exactly?

I gather it’s a CNUR and came from Connersville, as CNUR #5 and MAW #16 are in Defiance/Napoleon and CNUR #7 is in Woodburn?

I half wonder if either #6 or #12 will go back to Connersville, or they just saw the unit as excess with Visteon being closed, and kept the GP38 online only?  Seems like a waste to have 3 units here, when at least one of the west-facing units could pair up with #7 @ Woodburn for a back-to-back set (not that management is concerned with such semantics).

Anyone know how many other surplus units are still down in Connersville?  The place used to be PACKED with power when David Joseph maintained a rebuild shop there.  I recall a couple of x-WC and IHRC switchers, but I think a lot of it was scrapped or transferred out over the years.

Yeah, I thought it was the SPEG enginehouse as well. The only track connected to the diamond is the former Erie Lackwanna, SPEG, running East/West...... it's still  there... today!  (if you want to see it, you better get a look now), Someone indicated Van Wert County is accepting bids for a 10.2 mile track removal of the former EL (SPEG), I'm assuming it is the distance from the Elevator at Glenmore Ohio to about two miles West of Elgin Elevator. There are actually 3 tracks wide of the EL on the East side of Ohio City yet, short distance, a lot of crossing signage remains as well in Ohio City. I was told just a couple weeks ago that a rail-car builder was looking at Ohio City, they were interested in using that distance of track for new car storage..... I thought that would have been good, get something back through Ohio City after all these years, well so much for that, the info. for track removal is on Van Wert County's web-site.

I was East of Decatur today, so I decided to head over towards Ohio City, so much for signage, it's all down from Glenmore-Ohio City- to about 3 miles West of Elgin. They did have some sort of vehicle on the tracks recently, probably a truck though, you can see steel wheels visible on one of the photos of a crossing in Ohio City, that and the tank cars lined up over towards Elgin are the same 10-12 that were there several months ago. The photos of the diamond, with track is the Erie Lackawanna, the other directions without the track is what used to be the Nickel Plate, later Indiana Hi-Rail, the Cincinnati & Northern is almost un-reconizable as to where it used to run.
