What route did the New York Central take to get to Louisville? I think it went through North Vernon, But from North Vernon North and from North Vernon South what towns did it go through.

The route was shared with the B&O from North Vernon to Watson.

Not sure the exact arrangement. It had B&O signals and was run by the B&O.

From Watson south it used it's own alignment to the Big Four bridge
If in doubt, Notch it out!

The short and sadly now defunct tourist railroad that ran from Knightstown to Carthage was a remainder of this line.  At one time the line extended through Shirley and Emporia to Anderson.

On this same subject, was it freight only, or was there any passenger service to Louisville?  I started watching trains in Louisville in the early 1950's and don't remember seeing any NYC
