Private showing.
« on: December 12, 2015, 12:50:07 PM »
Most folks cannot make these meetings through the week, so I was going to do a private showing of all my "Indiana Only"  slides, and have some of my maps (Vincennes RR map is dated 1860s) and track profiles from the 1880s.

I was planning on this in 2008, but could not find a place that I was satisfied with. So cancelled the idea.

Will be doing two location:   Indianapolis and southern Indiana.
First one at Indy.
Date ????

Years are 1976 to 2005 +/-, most are between 1976 to 1996.
Subjects,  First years of INRD, First run of Indiana Eastern, First run (?) of CIND, AW&W, First years of LIRC, Indiana Southern, CMPA, Speed cement plant aerial shots, Southern Indiana,
Terre Haute, Brazil & Eastern, etc....
Same presentation showed twice. 4 hours each with 30 minute break between two hours
AM show: at 9:00 am - 11:00 am  (Break) 11:30 am  - 01:30 pm.
PM show: at 2:30 - 4:30 (break) 5:00 - 7:00 pm.
No charge (BUT donations would really be nice   ;D

Building requirements:
High ceiling, with large screen or white wall, screen MUST be above everyone's head. good parking, good area,
Total darkness, NO windows closed with just blinds, does not work.

This will have to be on a Saturday due to my work.   May change

Last Saturday did the private slide show in Louisville, and had a GREAT TIME. Got a few slides identified, had a tower in Louisville that now has a name and location.
Had two folks there, this is not the smallest audience, only had one person years ago and it lasted from 7 pm until 6 am, all night. That was with Russ Farlow at WVRR Connersville.
This was a "fast assembled" presentation, can improve on it.
Will be adding more slides and showing a few more maps with the subjects.
It lasted around six hours.
Got 36 more storage boxes to check for more slides. Should be a lot more that I know of in one or two of them.

Locations picked are Lafayette and Seymour, contacted visitor centers for possible locations. But I will do my own searching in Seymour.
Will up-date,  for Lafayette, will have my Right-of-way (Val) maps on display.

For Seymour, it will held at the visitor center (former MILW Freight House)
It is FREE.
Small Kitchen, two restrooms.
Ceiling screen, will above everyone, so all could see.
No time limit, stay as long as needed to finish.

My concern is limited space, they have had up to 30 people, with other programs.
Could be a problem.    I have two other locations to check. (should have checked today while there)
My previous public presentations, have had 2 to 30+.  So the Visitor Center would work.
Will be on a Saturday, in Oct or Nov. ??

OOPS just thought about all the windows around the top, not able to reach from floor, to much furniture/displays in the way.
Would have to block windows from outside ???

Will go to Lafayette next week.

I wanted to do two (same ), center of South half of Indiana, which is Seymour and one at Logansport, center of north half.  (Not Lafayette).
I could do one also in the Indianapolis area, I just assumed most around Marion County had seen them.

After rethinking the Seymour Visitor Center, it will NOT work, too much light. They are open to the public in the morning !
The reason is my 1913 flood slides are too dark (My fault) and must have total darkness, could save them for last.

Thanks for the comment, I will think about this.  Madison Indiana Library  has the BEST theater, FREE. The is screen is super large.
I want to be able too stay as late as needed.  Our NRHS meetings at MCL Indy, we have to be out by 8:30. I hate that.

Over two years since I posted, time goes too fast.
FIRST full day presentation. My RR slides.
DATE: May 16th (3rd) Saturday;
Start time:  9:00 am.
WHERE:  CAMP ATTERBURY at the Johnson County Park Office (room next to it)
(Same day the Columbus Model Railroad will have open house(next door) and the Indiana Live Steamer operate)

Subjects:  BC Rail, 1913 Flood, Illinois Terminal, short lines, Indiana Eastern first run, LIRC early years, INRD early years, Beech Grove shops in the 80s, 587 run between Detroit - Bellevue Ohio that I worked, Indianapolis before and after track elevation, etc, etc.......

Will have a schedule of the subjects so that folks can just come for what they are interested in.
Maps will be displayed on the walls and on tables.
Maps are mostly RR issued;
Some are:
Super detail of the Cincinnati area in the 1930s 3ft x 8ft.  Railroad issued.
Chicago and along northwest Indiana, great detail. large.  USGS topo.
Super detail of Saint Louis area in the 1940s?  3ft x 6ft. Railroad issued.

Food maybe be available, have not decided. Will keep updated.

Do not us GPS it will get you lost... been told this by visitors to the Columbus Model RR club next door to this location.
Will have signs with a "Locomotive" and "Direction arrows" on them from US 31 at Edinburgh.
The Columbus RR Club will also have their signs up going to the same location.

Will have  "1 1/2" hours for lunch break, starting at 12:30 so as to help avoid the lunch crowd, by the time you drive somewhere. Will have map of the restaurants nearby and at the Interstate interchange at Taylorsville.
I timed it so this 1 1/2 hours gives you time to drive and relax to eat.  I myself, hate being rushed.
Just doing this for fun the of it, have all these slides, need to show them.
So from 9 am until midnight, will allow 15 hours.  It actual took this long before, average of four seconds a slide is normal with discussions. Yes you may talk, but please stay on the subject shown.

Time change;
Will be 9 am to 9 pm.
Midnight is too late for most of us, including myself.
I realize that this schedule is better for all that would drive over an hour.

Will not be able to show all my slides, so will schedule another showing later in 2020.

Had question about maps.
There will be NO slides of maps, have several, but most folks do not have interest in them.
Can do a separate presentation later on these, if a few folks are interested.

Started sorting slides, did not realize how many!
The only far out of state subjects so far will be:

BC Rail, took a vacation there, rode the Bud units up front or on the rear. GREAT scenery.
(This will be first, so folks not interested can show up later for the more local subjects.

East Broad Top, was there when NO tourist or railfans were around.  They where getting ready for a private convention. This was also great.  This will be last.
