Throttle Time on the WVRR

The Whitewater Valley Railroad is Proud to Announce Throttle Time on Saturday September 20, 2014.

The Whitewater Valley Railroad for the first time will offer you a chance to operate a locomotive, On Saturday, September 20; the general public will be given a chance to operate one of many historic diesel locomotives on the Whitewater Valley Railroad main line. Each guest engineer will be observing and instructed for 30 minutes before sitting at the throttle for 30 minutes of actual hands on operations.

Slots will be available at 12:15, 1:15 and 2:15, starting after the Overland Limited Wild West Train has departed for Metamora. Two guest engineers will be in the cab at the same time, participants must be 18 or older. Sorry we are not able to accommodate any observers or other family members, etc.

The program will cost $150, and will include a year’s membership in the railroad plus copies of our current Book of Rules and Employees Time Table.

-----WVRR Throttle Time Details-----

What: WVRR throttle time is an opportunity to operate a diesel locomotive over the line of the Whitewater Valley Railroad, under guidance of an experienced WVRR engineer.

When: Throttle Time is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2014, Time slots will be 1 hour, scheduled at 12:15, 1:15 and 2:15 pm. Two people will be accommodated in each slot. Additional sessions will be added at the same times on Sunday, September 21, if needed to meet demand.

Where: WVRR Throttle Time will take place at the Whitewater Valley Railroad’s main shop and yard area at South Connersville, at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and State Route 121. (This is ¾ mile south of Grand Central Station in downtown Connersville.

Cost: Cost is $150 for the hour of throttle time, which includes a one-year annual membership in the Whitewater Valley Railroad, including its monthly newsletter “Towpath Tracks.” A copy of the WVRR Training Manual will also be included.

Payment: Payment is due in full before the throttle time. Payment may be made ahead of time or on the day at the ticket office in Grand Central Station.

Eligibility: Participants must be 18 years of age or older, with normal vision and hearing, and able to climb steps into the locomotive cab unassisted.

Locomotives: If available, we will use Lima-Hamilton #25, built 1951 for the Cincinnati Union Terminal. We reserve the right to substitute other locomotives as needed.

Operation: The engines will operate light, without a train. Operation will begin with a walk-around inspection and orientation to the locomotive, followed by basic instruction on operation, starting and stopping. The instructor will take the engine across busy Veteran’s Highway at the south end of the yard. The guest engineer will then take over the controls.

Liability: Participants will be asked to sign a waiver of liability in case of injury or accident.

Celebrating Over 40 Years of Operations, The Whitewater Valley Railroad is an operating railroad museum dedicated to the preservation of a historic branch line railroad, to the restoration of railroad equipment, and to the conduct of educational railroad programs. The WVRR is operated by trained volunteers.

All spots are full and we have started a waiting list. Currently no news on whether we will open up Sunday Sept 21.

More News about our newly announced Throttle Time.

 We have now opened spots on Sunday September 21, 2014 at 12:15pm, 1:15pm, and 2:15pm. To make reservations you must call Grand Central Station at 765-825-2054.

 The program will cost $150, and will include a year’s membership in the railroad plus copies of our current Book of Rules and Employees Time Table.

 We have made on modification to the program. Due to a previous miscommunication, we will now require full payment when making your reservation.
