"Spirited" day in Avon
« on: November 17, 2013, 06:56:22 PM »
While I don't go 'ga-ga' over it, was interesting to see two of the "Spirit" locomotives in Avon today.  Q007-17 had CSXT 500 on the point ("Spirit of Grafton" IIRC).  In later was Q349-17 with CSXT 4685 "Spirit of Mulberry".

Wow... it's rare for an SD70M to leave Florida, isn't it???

In all my years of railfanning, I've seen exactly ONE of those... trailing on a WB stack train at Wellsboro.
CSX 9000 series... 46 down, 6 to go!

Yeah the CSX SD70M don't escape Florida much. Usually it was because one was sent to Huntington for work.

I am still not sure why Florida rates special units anyway. Even before these they would pick out certain models and concentrate them all down there.

Right now it's the CSX GP39-2, GP60 and SD70.
If in doubt, Notch it out!

Before it was because they would equip those units with air conditioning while the rest of the fleet didn't have it.  That's why they kept certain units down there.

I use to catch some of these in Evansville.  I think one was the Spirit of Cumberland but not sure.

The SD70M and SD70MACs look like. But the internals are different. One is DC traction, the other is AC traction.
If in doubt, Notch it out!
