Washington County
« on: October 31, 2013, 12:51:41 PM »
Here is another county where shots of railroad activity are now very few and far between.  The former Monon/CSX Hoosier Subdivision is the only railroad that runs through Washington County and it has been effectively mothballed since 2009.  Although the line has been cleared of storage cars, I was still able to catch some railroad-related activity at Salem in September!  The CSX crossing maintainer from Mitchell had just finished checking out the apparatus at the High Street crossing when I took the photo below.  How long this line has left to live and what its future holds is anyone's guess, but the comments from people along the line with whom I spoke ranged from uncertainty to impending doom. :'(
Cheers, Al
