With two days to choose from, why not both? :)
I like the way this man thinks.

Thinking about riding that Saturday and chasing Sunday. Any idea on times or is that still up in the air as of this moment?

Kelly, any information yet on the difference in the four ticket price levels?  I don't mind paying the higher price, but would like to know what I get for the money.

With all the construction on 25 between Logansport and Delphi, the cops should have a heyday with teh chasers.  ;D

Steve brings up a good point.  As I was thinking of setting up somewhere along 25 (and/or possibly chasing it  ;D), does law enforcement get notified about something like this?  Do they get an "Oh by the way, a steam locomotive is going to be running down the ex-Wabash line and there are going to be dozens, if not hundreds of people chasing/pacing/racing it through your county."?

Someone who knows Tippecanoe, Carroll, and Cass county law enforcement officers might want to broach that question...

On occasion we have sent out notices that warn of congestion or an increase of motorists, but have not done so recently. If anything it is a courtesy, and the railroad police notify local municipalities too.

25 was particularly dicey during the last runs to St Louis.

Hopefully the four lane will be open by then, they are working feverishly on it all.
If in doubt, Notch it out!

I was just down that way last Wednesday.  Based on what needs to be done to finish it, I would guess there is no way it will be done by October...at least not this October

Well I know the new section from Lafayette to Delphi is open, and that follows the tracks where no road previously did.
If in doubt, Notch it out!

I just remembered that this will cross crew districts. Wonder how they will handle the crews on this.
If in doubt, Notch it out!

I know on the St Louis ferry trip last year, they made an extended stop at Peru, so I'm ASSUMING there will be a stop at Peru for a new pilot crew. Just from a logistical standpoint, I'm curious where they will board passengers at Fort Wayne.  I can think of one PERFECT location, IF it could be arranged, not sure that it could be.

The NKP station would be best, as it's 100% intact. But obviously there is no direct access to the WABASH.

Perhaps just have the Diesel pull the thing back to NE. (I doubt you want to try 765 thru the snake track!)

That would be neat, but a logistical pain in the butt, limited parking, messing up traffic on TWO lines instead of one, and if you don't use the Snake, you would have to run clear through to NE, making it a bigger hassle.  Also, any big  backup moves means tying up a diesel, which from the sound of things will not be needed otherwise.  I was thinking of the Do It Best HQ on Nelson Road.  On the Wabash, big parking lot (just expanded even bigger) little used on the weekends, and a siding right next to the parking lot, it would seem perfect.  The only question, what's in it for Do It Best?  Perhaps some free publicity?

They always take a diesel (Sometimes two or three). As insurance.

On the recent Horseshoe curve trips, they had the diesel on the rear. NKP 765 pulled the train up the curve, while the PRR unit brought it back down.

It's been done.

NKP thru Fort Wayne is double track anyway and not as much used anyway.

Kelly says no diesels on this trip, and while the NKP isn't overloaded with trains, they use both tracks pretty frequently to work around parked and waiting trains.  Logistically, it would be a mess to use any spot on the NKP west of NE.

Sorry, just catching up here.

Diesels:

I'd posted elsewhere that there are no plans for diesels at the moment, but plans can and do change. If there is one, it'll be a heritage unit. We'll know soon whether or not someone in the operating department wants to show one off. It's really interesting that a few folks from Europe have got in touch about the sans-diesel possibility, because they, like others, have discerning tastes in their train consist...

We have operated a number of trips with no diesels on NS, as has Southern 639. There is no official rule/requirement/insurance clause regarding diesels.

Boarding locations:

Four locations are under consideration, including the NKP elevated station which. While logistically a little more complicated due to the aforementioned reasons, it would be the ideal spot for a number of reasons -- parking, marketing, etc...The reserve moves aren't a deal killer.

We'll change crews in Peru like any other train.

Tickets/Classes:

Right now there are two classes with one other class potentially evolving (and since adjusted since our announcement.) They are economy coach class (re-purposed NS passenger cars, more modern interior) standard coach (vintage MidAmerica coaches, reclining seats, all vintage interior), and deluxe coach (lower level dome car.)

Reading that you may wonder what about upper level dome car seats. We are going to reach out to those who were part of the 2000-2005 rebuild from Allen County and INDOT -- many of whom were part of the grant approval and administration process among others -- who have yet to see and experience the 765.

Given the time of year and the consist requirements, first class and other dome cars (beyond the MidAmerica dome on our property already) are hard to come by, but I would love nothing more than a few more options for those interested.

Can't count on it, but I think it'd be cool if you guys could get ahold of a California Zephyr car. Been wanting to see one in person for years.
14 down, 6 to go.
