FairTrain 2013 - new schedule
« on: August 02, 2013, 01:35:55 AM »
The 2013 FairTrain (http://www.itm.org/Fairtrain.php), owned and operated by the Indiana Transportation Museum (http://www.itm.org), has some new things in store for this year!  First, there is a slightly different schedule consisting of 9 daily round-trips instead of 10:

Depart Fishers Station (116th St)
8:45 a.m.
10:15 a.m.
11:45 a.m.
1:30 p.m.
3:00 p.m.
4:30 p.m.
6:00 p.m.
7:45 p.m.
9:15 p.m.

Depart Fairgrounds (across from Fair Gate 6)
9:30 a.m.
11:00 a.m.
12:30 p.m.
2:15 p.m.
3:45 p.m.
5:15 p.m.
6:45 p.m.
8:30 p.m.
10:15 p.m.

There is a brand-new pedestrian crossing across the track in Fishers near the library, about 200 feet north of the train's north end when parked at the station.

The 1929 Pullman business car Nickel Plate Road #1, sporting a brand-new air-conditioning compressor, will be on the consist after opening weekend as a First Class one-way upgrade.

Motive power will be . . . well, you'll have to come find that out in person!

The Fishers Train Station is located at 11600 Municipal Drive, just a half mile west of exit 205 (formerly exit 5) on Interstate 69. Free parking is available at the station area.  Purchase tickets at the station, visit restrooms, and be prepared to board at least 10 minutes before departure time.  **Be advised that due to construction on southbound I-69, there is NO access from SOUTHBOUND I-69 onto 116th St.  If coming that way, just continue south to the 96th St exit and return north on I-69 to 116th St.**

Tickets are sold on board the train to allow the option of a round trip train ride from the State Fair to Fishers Train Station and return. However, tickets may by purchased on the train via cash only.

Passengers may also board FairTrain behind Scott Dentistry at Steinmeier Station (just west of Binford Blvd. on 71st. St. across the railroad).  This "flag stop" is a fundraising project for Binford Redevelopment and Growth (BRAG).  Tickets for boarding at Steinmeier Station may be purchased only at the customer service desk at Kroger, located at 71st and Binford Boulevard (SR 37), at the standard prices.  BRAG receives a portion of the revenue for each ticket sold at Kroger.  For details, see the BRAG website: http://www.binford71.org/news--events.html .

Round-trip fare on FairTrain 2013 is $12 adult and $8 child (ages 2-12).  Children under age 2 ride free.

Appreciate the update, and especially this notice:

**Be advised that due to construction on southbound I-69, there is NO access from SOUTHBOUND I-69 onto 116th St.  If coming that way, just continue south to the 96th St exit and return north on I-69 to 116th St.**

I fear the construction work in that area is going to really impact the ridership his year, as a lot of folks will (a) not know how to make that simple move or (b) once they are down to 96th street, they will simply go on down Binford to the fairgrounds.

It's a bad situation for everyone running down I-69 and wanting to get over to the station at Fishers.

Note: We might be among a growing number of riders who use the Steinmeier Station stop this month.

That is the official detour being pushed by INDOT.  They probably want to avoid too much traffic on Fishers' surface streets.

A better choice for those coming from farther north on I69 is to leave the interstate at exit 210, go east briefly on SR238 and at the round-about go south on Olio Road. Take Olio south to 126th Street and then go west.  Cross SR37 and the railroad tracks and go south on Lantern Road watching for the signs to the parking areas.

The northbound leader is quite tasty. ;D
The gates are going down and the people are starting to frown.

17 down, 3 to go.

Sounds Like a good year to try a couple revenue trips from Noblesville.

Yes, it appears that ITM has finally patched the holes on the 83A and given it fresh coat of black paint. Maybe after the fair they will finish the job. What paint scheme it will be remains to be seen.

I didn't know it was broke. Of course I haven't been down there in several years. You just don't here about ITM much anymore.

I had heard that they were trying to get one of the Milwaukee Road F Units Repainted for the Fair Train in the Monon Black and Gold Scheme. It was the One they were Rebuilding. So could that be the Unit. Heard that Information at National Train Day at Union Station.

No Monon black-and-gold scheme is currently planned.  The 83 will wear basic black until after the debut of engine 72 once its restoration is complete.  The 83 will then be returned to a faithful Monon paint scheme, which wasn't possible in time before opening day of the state fair due to the repair work recently done on its exterior.

And yes, the Mars Light on 83 is repaired and fully functional.

Some bozo must've knocked into the westbound crossing guard at Fall Creek Pkwy. It's just lying there in the median. The crews already know about it. Here are some shots I took. sorry for the blurryness!

The 72 was the Locomotive that was talked about at Train Days at Union Station. Either Monon Black and Gold or in the Milwaukee Road Scheme.

You know, a can of white spray paint,  some 9 inch stencils of the letters C and R, and about 10 minutes and you have your very own Conrail Heritage unit, circa 1976  :P
The opinions, views, and incoherent ramblings presented here do not necessarily represent the view point of any company I work for or own,  any logical thinking being, or even me.

The number 83 is on it. ITMZ is probably unnecessary since it's not leaving its home rails.

I haven't heard it asked.

What is the status on the the FP7A 96 and the B unit, I forget the number of the B unit.

I know some of the trucks off the B unit went to 200 to enable it to interchange out of Kokomo.

LOL I told my dad, when I was getting in the truck at Fishers, that they should just put "mating worms" on it and be done with it.
