LIRC north end sightings
« on: November 15, 2012, 12:16:13 PM »
Daily Columbus-Avon turn northbound, by MP 3.0 at 12:13.  Today was a biggie, with 3 locos and 82 cars.  Mostly grain hoppers but there were some boxes, flats and tanks too.

Will LIRC be running on Monday?
The gates are going down and the people are starting to frown.

16 down, 4 to go.

On Thursday I saw that the Pullman Rail Journey's North Coast car is parked on the siding at Southport Road.  I found its floor plan here (as well as those of the other coaches in the group):

4 units northbound to Indy (Avon) today including one of the leased units.  It should be a long train on return trip to Columbus this afternoon.  Northbound train passed through downtown Indy at 11:30am.

Where'd you see them? I got them at Torrence and Madison.

Next to Eli Lilly between i-70 and South St.  BTW, this is the first time I've ever seen more than three units.

the 4 units were for the return trip to columbus.  weekend car traffic build-up, usually a long train on mondays.

2/19- Caught 60 car consist today northbound at Raymond on near south side of Indianapolis at roughly 12:15pm.  3 Units leading the way including the leased #3804. I've noticed the best opportunity to catch longer trains on the CA (columbus to avon) are Monday evening southbound and Tuesday northbound.

2 locos and 8 or so cars northbound CA near UI campus at 12:00pm.  by far the shortest LIRC train I have seen.  too bad one of those new ethanol plants didn't locate along the line somewhere.  I know the one in Cloverdale has brought CSX a huge bump in traffic on that local, J771?.

Does J-771 run from Lafayette to Limedale/Cloverdale Mon/Fri? How about on weekends? If so, would make 3 locals, two passenger trains and two road freights that run between Lafayette and Crawfordsville Monday - Friday? (10 per day plus an extra grain train once or twice per week?)

When is it that they are suppose to go to Running Trains Six Days a week? I heard that they are suppose to go to that per a CSX Agreement.

Its always been a 6 day a week thing at Avon, LIRC just hasn't been coming.  They get "Rule 15'd" on the days they don't come, paying a fee to CSX for having to sit on the cars.  Ditto for INRD, who is also supposed to be coming 6 or 7 days a week.  The days they don't come, CSX submits a 'Rule 15' for the cars, and collects a fee.

LIRC must be realizing that paying the fee is going to cost more than running the job on the 6th day.

Practice Safe CSX

Tonight My Son was in Columbus and said that there is 2 Leased Locomotives on the Northbound CA Turn. My Plans are to try to get down and get Pictures of the Locomotives to Add to My Louisville and Indiana  Binder. He could not tell me what the Locomotive Numbers were.

The leased power has been commonplace on the CA turn the last month or so.  #3804 and #3807 are the ones I've seen.

I was in Columbus this afternoon Taking Pictures of the 3804 and 3803 and the Power for Tomorrow is as follows. 223-3804-3803 with 28 Freight Cars. Hope this helps out. Also it Looks like they are getting ready to Extend the Siding at Kokomo Grain in Amity. They are Clearing the Right of Way North of the Grainery and there is a lot of Rail and Ties stacked on the West Side of the Grainery. I also Noticed Noticed a Lot of New Signs along the Right of Way. They have a New Sign by Franklin College that says North Elvin at the Siding. There is also a New Sign on the North End of Columbus Yard as well. Cant wait for this Weather to Break so I can get out and get Photos of all the New Signs.

Yeah, that surprised me too.
I'm home now and just heard them now at MP3 returning south at 7:38 PM.  Heads up, Greenwood & Whiteland!
