Wow, I can just see some local members of the public throwing an outcry about that. Although I have my doubts that any of them would be from the Noblesville area.

So who moved the excavator in? The museum or the city?

This, of course, begs some questions:

What equipment are they scrapping?

What equipment was ITM able to get out?

What is the status of NKP 587 and other notable equipment?

I am waiting on pics of what is going on down there.  Has to be someone in that neck of the state that can get there and get some pictures.  Typical of ITM to not be open and upfront with what they are going to do.  Not a peep on thier facebook page about any scraping going on.  Lets hope the better pieces like the main locomotives and the stainless coaches get saved.  A Vo-tech diesel class put in tons of hours getting F unit 72(mother) up and running mechanically, very sad if all that work goes to waste.   A sad state of affairs period.  But it is of thier own doing, sad to say.   Mike the Aspie

Here are some pictures of the scrapping.  I didn't really see exactly what equipment was being scrapped.  It looks more like clean up of junk but there are several scrap dumpsters on the property.

Also sitting out is 587's tender, which sadly is looking in need of some TLC.  I rode behind 587 on the 1989 Independence Limited and it is something to see it in this shape compared to old photos.  Also a couple other equipment pics.

Are they actually scrapping cars or just picking up some of the "stuff" that was previously in the weeds?

I am thinking its a grounds clean up in preparation to move.  Cant take all that loose junk with you.  I just find it very odd they are not be very upfront with thier plans to save the equipment now that they have been evicted.  Many of the non railfan comments on their facebook was if 426 was going to pull the Polar train at Christmas time.  Unless they are not done with legal challenges to try and save themselves and thier home at this location.

Apparently, the Chicago "L" cars are being, or already have been scrapped. Also this.

A few of those CTA cars had already been torched or rotted away for the past three decades.

I wouldn't call the lawyers stakeholders.  (unless it's pounded through where a heart should be :P)

Took a couple quick pics today as I rode through Forrest Park.  Not a lot of change, 587's cab is sitting outside and there do appear to be some cars that look in poor condition being scrapped.  Some piles of scrap look to be gone now but otherwise there isn't a lot of big changes so far.

I went by this afternoon, and from what I could see, it looked like just some old nasty rusty stuff that was getting scrapped.  Note: "... from what I could see ..." -- I was just driving by; I didn't really get out and look through the fence.

2nd that!  Looks like your typical scrap yard...not a former museum
